Weaving Hypnotic Principles into EMDR: A tapestry for enhancing psychotherapy

The Clinical Hypnosis Society of New Jersey is pleased to welcome Marie Masciandaro, Psy.D. for our next Clinical Conversation.  Maria, an EMDR trainer and case consultant, is a former President of CHSNJ, and faculty member at The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy.

This workshop will be presented via ZOOM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11am - 1pm EDT.

Description

In this program Maria will share how she utilizes hypnotic principles in her work as an EMDR psychotherapist through the Adaptive Information Processing lens. Each of the eight phases of EMDR provide ample opportunity for the hypnotically informed clinician to increase the power of the therapeutic relationship. Following this discussion participants will be invited to share their own experiences of utilizing formal trance and hypnotic principles within their own framework to increase our awareness how hypnosis training can benefit clinicians from diverse theoretical orientations.

Maria Masciandaro is a former President of CHSNJ and served as Psychologist-At-Large on the ASCH Executive Board. Her therapeutic lens is EMDR and she will discuss how hypnotic principles inform her work as a clinician, case consultant and trainer. Currently on faculty at The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy, she is a consultant to several organizations including the Trauma Unit at Care Plus NJ in Paramus and the  Trauma Resource Center of University Hospital in Newark. She is also a volunteer visiting clinical supervisor for the Psychological Clinic at Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. Her area of focus is trauma, training EMDR clinicians in the Recent Traumatic Episode and Group Traumatic Episode Protocols. At the beginning of the recent conflict in the Ukraine she developed a group resourcing protocol (GREP) which is being used in many settings to help individuals dealing with persistent overwhelming stressors to develop/access the resources they need to move through their challenges.
